Shopping centre flying high after a £600 prize fund giveaway attracted hundreds of shoppers during mid-term break

Getting a sun tan may not be your first thought when it comes to February half term, but one Ashton-Under-Lyne shopping centre gave shoppers the chance jet off as part of a huge prize giveaway.    


Ladysmith Shopping Centre transformed four of its retailers into popular travel destinations for its Wanderlust event, which even saw staff dress the part too.


While shoppers didn’t need their passport to participate, an air stewardess was on hand checking customers’ unique boarding cards which they could pick up from Holland and Barret (Hawaii), Cardzone (France), Max Spielmann (Mexico) and Millie’s Cookies (America).  


Customers were then informed on the spot as to whether they were a lucky winner of one of the gifts in the £600 prize pot.


Florance Mellor, winner of a £100 Hays Travel voucher, said: “I just couldn’t believe my luck when it flashed up on the iPad that I’d won.


“I loved that you found out there and then, it really encouraged me to head down to the centre and enter.


“The staff all looked great and I’d like to thank Ladysmith for putting on another great event. I will certainly be keeping my eye out for the next one being announced.”


Other prizes up for grabs included £25 voucher for Netflix, 2 £50 perfume sets and family day out vouchers to Cineworld to name but a few.


Samantha Robinson, Assistant Centre Manager at Ladysmith, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people turn out for Wanderlust on Friday.


“There was such a buzz to the place and it was great to see the retailers dressed up and getting really involved in the event.


“The centre had a fantastic January in terms of visitor numbers, and we were delighted to see an increase in footfall every Sunday compared to the previous year as a result of our annual Meat Raffle.


“We are confident we can continue this trend with the unique events programme we have planned for the rest of the year.”
