One Below opens at Ladysmith
Bargain hunters are expected to flock
to an Ashton shopping centre this weekend as it welcomes the arrival of a new
£1 or less store.
Below, a new UK discount brand from the original founders of Poundworld Retail,
opened its doors on Friday at Ladysmith Shopping Centre, where people could be
seen queuing ahead of the 10am opening.
store has recruited 20
members of staff from the local area to become part of the One
which includes many of the former staff who lost their jobs
when the old Ashton Poundworld shop went in to administration in 2018.
The new independent chain is the first
discount store in the UK to sell everything for £1 and under including a wide
range of brands such as Coca Cola, Pedigree, Heinz, Kellogg’s and Cadbury’s and
many popular cleaning names such as Zoflora and The Pink Stuff, as favoured by
social media superstar Mrs Hinch.

manager at Ladysmith, said: “Everyone
is excited to welcome One Below to Ladysmith.
“Such retailers have been the saviour for
many high streets, with one of their many advantages being that they face very
little competition from the internet.

increasingly seeking value for money.

One Below will sell over 5,000 products,
retailing at £1 or less with prices starting at as little as 29p. The store
will stock a wide range of items across 10 departments
including groceries, home, health and beauty,
baby care, toy, DIY, partyware, craft and gardening.
The new brand is being independently financed
and launched by father and son retail entrepreneurs, Christopher Edwards (36)
and Christopher Edwards Senior. The successful businessmen from Wakefield, were
the original founders of former high street retailer, Poundworld Retail Limited
before it was sold to American private equity conglomerate, TPG Capital in

Middleton and Manchester Fort Shopping Park. The new brand plans to open at
least 10 stores in the North West this year creating 200 jobs for the retail
industry in the region.
One Below plans to take its new brand

for the struggling UK retail industry, reviving empty retail units on high
streets throughout the country.

in to administration in 2018.
